Regional Superfoods

Imported or rather regional?

Acai berries, chia seeds, quinoa and many other foods belong to the already very popular superfoods. But what else do they all have in common? Exactly, they are not native to Germany. Unfortunately, long transport routes cannot be avoided, which has a negative impact on the environment. However, long transport routes and thus more expensive superfoods do not always have to be.

Because the local ones can also keep up with the imported exotics. Of course, this cannot always be avoided, as not everything can grow in Germany, but where possible, we at Team nur.fit try to source the superfoods directly on site from German farmers. But what exactly are our regional superfoods? And what are they made of?

German organic Superfoods

Greens: Kale, wheatgrass, barley grass, broccoli & spinach.

Regional and green

German varieties don't have to hide when it comes to vegetables either. The ever-popular kale is anything but boring. It contains a lot of good ingredients. Besides the usual suspects like vitamins C, A and E, kale also contains a good portion of protein. Rounded out by calcium and potassium, and with only a few calories, kale is perfect for any healthy diet. With us you can find BIO kale as a powder that can be mixed perfectly into any meal. Of course, you shouldn't neglect the green classics: Broccoli and spinach. Both vegetables are full of vitamins and minerals and they are great in many different dishes. But smoothies can also be enhanced very well with both of them, for which we have two super BIO powders that are made in Germany. Things get a little more experimental with wheatgrass and barley grass. These sprouts of their better-known bigger brothers have it all. They contain an abundance of vitamins and secondary plant substances in a very small space. These are real regional superfoods, and both are available in powder form in our shop. For those who don't like the taste of grasses but still want to benefit from the nutrients, we recommend the BIO barley grass tabs from Germany.

Ginger & Rosehip

Tea party with ginger and rosehip

Let's start with a home remedy that you've probably seen on the tea shelf before: The rosehip. These little red fruits are really something! They contain large amounts of vitamin C (100g rose hips have 1250 mg vitamin C). A perfect substitute for acai berries. However, you should not simply eat the berries from the tree, as this could end badly. The seeds inside the rosehip have small hooks that cause severe itching. As a tea, rose hips are also very useful. Try our organic rosehip powder, which of course also comes from the EU. While we're on the subject of teas, another superfood you probably know is good old ginger. No wonder it is often used as a home remedy for colds. Although the tuber is not originally from Germany, it is easy to grow here, even on the windowsill. The inconspicuous root is full of vitamin C, iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium, phosphorus and sodium.

Linseed

Gone to flax

You can find chia seeds almost everywhere now, but maybe try a regional alternative. Flax seeds are great for this. They contain even more omega-3 fatty acids than chia seeds and are perfect for baking in bread or mixing into muesli. By the way, you can also make a natural conditioner with flaxseed and there are many hair products made with flaxseed. Other superfood seeds you may even have in your garden. The seeds of the stinging nettle are a real regional and local superfood. You can use them as a natural protein powder, for example, because they are full of it. Besides, it contains a lot of calcium, potassium and a bit of vitamin C, B3 and E, of course. So why not try out a few German superfoods?
